Lou,
Ouch. From the article: "Microsoft's objective with Windows XP SP2 is to make it easier for end users to configure and manage security resources via new functionality and stronger security settings. Microsoft hopes the new settings will translate into safer Web browsing and improved security infrastructure for both businesses and individuals." Seems more likely that they could have stuck some settings on the machine that's fouling up the FG going to BRIS. Wish I knew what it was, but I don't even run XP. If anyone has any ideas, or the fix, please post it. |

Well, you could always re-install Windows, or at
least you could prior to XP. I've done it with 98SE several times over the years with no bad effects. Check on the net to be sure, though - I know next to nothing about XP... Lou |

If you decide to go the reinstall route, at some point Windows installer will ask if you want to overwrite newer files - select "yes to all" - the point is to get Windows back to where it was before. Again, a disclaimer - this worked for me with 98 Second Edition. I had (stupidly) installed some third-rate cd writing software that came on a disc with my cd-rom burner. It screwed up my system by installing some bad DLL's and I couldn't get rid of it - it would not uninstall and I was afraid to scrape it out of the registry with regedit (which wouldn't have worked anyway because of the bogus Dll's) so I reinstalled Windows.
Good luck... Lou |
