Yea, I thought that topic might grab someone's attention, but this refers to horses.
Anyone ever perform analysis on how trainers handle filles/mares vs. colts/horses? I remember reading something years ago where some trainers just cannot handle filles/mares. Is this worth an ability connection? |

Scott,
My gut feeling is that it wouldn't be worthwhile -- but it would be interesting to see the results. Wonder if anyone over at PA has this info at the tips of a db somewhere already? |

I use this in my own program and it is true that some trainers win a lot more with 1 sex then the other. Also age of horses distance surface etc. There are trainers and jockeys out there that are very one sided.

Nathan,
It took me awhile but using FV I have what I believe to be some solid evidence, all be it on a limited sample, of disparities by trainer and sex. I took a template that contains trainer, sex, finish position and Win$ and loaded data from the TAM meet through yesterday and found some interesting items. Example: One of the leading trainers, Lynn Scace, shows up as 1 for 10 on horses, colts and geldings but 7 for 20 on fillies and mares. Returned a healthy $76.6 for the $40 wagered. Another: Thomas McCooey Sr, 0 for 10 on males (11% in the money) and 3 for 10 of females. Returned $34.40 for the $20 with 50% ITM on females. Now I'm not saying this is the holy grail or anything like that but it would be intersting to see some examples on a larger sample. I've seen enough to at least keep me interested in this angle. Thanks to FV I was able to easily prove my theory Scott |

Scott,
Could you have Nathan post the template and give us an explanation how to use it? Thanks, Bill |

Bill,
The data is part of a very large template that Nathan is currently reviewing before posting. I'll see if I can pull out the important bits of information into a smaller template and send it to Nathan. Scott |

I've posted Scott's abbreviated template. It is in the "Templates" post right under the EquiSim-Using forum topic.
