I was wondering about something.

When I create a database with back files using store by track it creates a profile database among other (Sim or Comp) OK fine, but what happens when I begin to use the MY PICKS area, I am then creating a DIFFERENT Profile using my filters and then saving that.

So that profile is being mixed with the original, so I guess we need to set up 2 different databases for it to accurate?

Hi Chris,

The My Picks is really not part of the profiler function but rather the selection and wagers module. My picks are recorded on the selection side of the selection and wagers module. Template odds can be assigned to your picks and once results are available can be stored along with the profiler data to the database of your choice.

However, you may decide it is best to make another database just for you selections.

It would be much easier to talk you through this part of the program and answer your questions over the phone.

I would be glad to call you on my cell. I generally recommend you email Nathan and he forwards your number to me. However, he is going to be out of town until the 20th if I remember right, so whatever works best let me know.

So the profiler is formed before you add results and save to the database?

If that is the case then it is OK.

TEMPLATES INFO RETRIEVAL:
I have about six templates and am tracking 6 diff angles, systems etc. How can I retrieve this info at any given time and look at it to see how each angle is doing?

Chris,

It would be much easier to talk about your many questions on the phone, but let me at least tell you how I use the program to build the database and store my wagers.

Each day I attend the track(and during the school year that is generally only Saturday and Sunday), I open by date the six tracks I play each day the evening before. Once all six are open, I run all simulations under the Simulation dropdown menu and profile all races under the profiler database dropdown menu.

Next I do my handicapping and record information about the things I am interested in for each race on a spreadsheet. Then I close out the program.

When I arrive at the track the next day, I open each track one by one and enter the scratches using the scratch screen. Then I simulate and profiler the card(s) to make necessary changes for the scratches. I make manual changes to my spreadsheet and at this point go to the selection and wagering module and add my expected wagers for the day (in my case win wagers) and tag them accordingly for what I am tracking in the database. For example, one of my tags is BestE1Jock (which stands for a jockey play when the jockey riding today is profitable on Best E1 horses and the horse has that specific factor). As the day goes on, if I decide the wager I planned to make is not justified (say because of value), I delete it from the wagering module. This basically is how I handle all six tracks as scratches become available throughout the day.

At the end of the day, I close all cards and exit the program. At this point, I still have not stored any of the day's card to the database. The next morning I download the results files for all six tracks. NOTE: I download datafiles and results every day whether I play or not to keep my database current.

So when do I store the datafiles, wagers and results?

Every week on Monday evening (a day which is very slow for the tracks I play), I open Equisim and go to profiler database and click on Store by Track. In the window that appears, I select the six tracks I play and pick a date range from say 11/10 (Monday) to 11/16 (Sunday) and click okay. Store by Track then simulates, profilers and stores all the profiler information in the database along with the wagers I have input throughout the weekend when I play.

I hope this makes sense, and if you want to walk through any of this or anything else on the phone just let me know.

Chuck,

Actually the selection side of the Selection and Wagers screen is not the best method of analyzing your angles, systems, etc. Basically the selection side is so you can input your selections for later review when you are actually playing the day's card. The templates provide a guide to exactly how much chance you give each selection so you can make overlay wagers and your confidence in each specific race and odds set. Again Steve Fierro's book explains this concept much better than I can.

Anyway, you can use SPAT to look at your (My Picks) but the top selection is just that all top selections unless some of the filters in SPAT can help separate your angles (which I doubt).

Therefore, you should use the wagering part of Selection and Wagers for tracking of specific angles (make tags to identify each angle(s)). Then you can use the Wagering Report to look at each angle. One thing currently missing from the Wagering analysis is the ability to look at odds ranges, but Nathan has put this on his list for review at a later date (future upgrades). For now if specific odds are needed you can make additional tags to track your odds situations.

Hope that helps,

Bill

When I created a database I used store by track and my Default filters are Track, distance and surface.

So now I have a database but as I handicap each race I use the Prime Power filter to come up with MY PICKS, I then save those picks to the database.

Then I got to thinking that I am saving 2 different sets of data for the profiler, the database I built by STORE to Track and now I am saving the profiler data based on the Prime Power Sort.

I guess the only way around it is to use the Prime Power sort to come up with my profiler picks, then enter those in the MY PICKS, then resort the Profiler by unchecking the Prime Power, analyze and then save to the database.

Chris,

I am not certain we are understanding each other very well.

Sorry, but it seems I might be making matters worse rather than better.

Again, would be glad to talk with you by phone, so let me know if you decide that would be helpful.

Otherwise maybe Nathan will chime in once he returns on the 20th.

Bill,

I've been reading Fierro's book (great!). Are you suggesting using tags that correspond with an odds template to track contendors? Thanks.

Yes Bill, exactly!!!

That way you can see how well each odds category is performing compared to how you see the race. In otherwords, a means of tracking say horses you assign 2/1 that you expect to win at a 33% win rate.

Further, you could use two tags, one for the line you set on the horse and another tag for the actual odds the horse went off at post time. This way you could see how the overlays do compared to the underlays (by the way a overlay tag and underlay tag maybe adequate for this testing).

Just an idea, not something I have yet utilized myself. Overall, I personally am only tracking my type of wagers with various tags.

This program has something for everyone,

Bill

Bill, thanks. I don't use selection side at all(left side)just the wagering side(right side)I don't even see the purpose or value to this left side. I guess I missed where the wagering reports are; i'll look some more.
BTW, my delete button on right side is shaded in grey and I am unable to delete any wagers. I put the mouse pointer on it, click like mad, drag mouse pointer across, can't get it to light up.

I found the wagering report but still can't figure out how to look at my six individual tags. EX:I have a tag called match1 but can't see how to look at the results of this tag or any of my other tags.

I think I found it but only see 2 of my six tags. I did get an error msg first time I opened wager report about incorrect macros and whatever, so I have no idea what happened.

Chuck,

To make the delete key or edit key functional, first click on the entry you want to delete and it will turn grey.

Then the delete and edit keys become functional.

Sounds like you have figured out the wagering report, but yell if you need further assistance.

Chris,

How are you on this issue now? Meaning, have you found the answer you were looking for? Honestly, I'm pretty wiped out from my trip and I _really_ want to get 4.0 to release status this weekend. I'm happy to follow up on these issues after that, and also perhaps even disucuss the issues you are raising as part of the first official on-line seminar/learning session that will occur just as soon as I finish mailing out CDs.

Glad you noticed and I was hoping to get a comment on my Dr. Szell reference but no takers.
